Who we are

Olio Nece is produced by Mezzecrete, an agricultural company whose operational activities are run in its Tuscan unit "Agricola Neci" located in Asciano, in the heart of the Crete Senesi, just 15 km away from the Brunello di Montalcino’s vineyards.
The estate covers 260 hectares, which comprise woods, cultivated fields, a lake, olive groves and wild truffle grounds where the precious white truffle of the Crete Senesi is born spontaneously.

Olio Nece is a high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil, PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) “Terre di Siena” certified, which is obtained from pressing four autochthonous Tuscan olives’ species: Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo, Pendolino. Olio Nece benefits from a high content in polyphenols.

The characteristics and varieties of olives

EVO PDO Terre di Siena is an organic extra virgin olive oil with a vibrant emerald green hue accented by flashes of gold.

It opens linearly to the olfactory senses, featuring gentle tones of freshly cut grass, apple, and kiwi, followed by hints of moss and fresh almond.

The tasting experience faithfully mirrors the olfactory profile—harmonious, clear, and complex, with impeccably integrated spicy and bitter notes complementing the fruity structure.

Excellent when used raw on a Florentine steak or on ribollita.

An EVO PDO Terre di Siena is obtained from at least two of the following varieties (or cultivar): Frantoio, Correggiolo, Leccino and Moraiolo, which must be present in the olive groves individually for at least 10% and together for at least 85%.

Other varieties in the olive groves, such as Pedolino, are allowed but cannot compete for more than 15%.

Leccino (42%)

Cultivar widely spread in Central Italy. The drupes are harvested in the very first part of the optimal period to enhance the organoleptic qualities of the oil, with maximum presence of polyphenols and chlorophylls.

Frantoio (27%)

It is the most widespread olive tree in Tuscany. In blend with other varieties it has an improving influence on quality. The oil has a high content of polyphenols and chlorophylls. Yellow green colour with hints of grass, tomato and sage. Bitterly-spicy aftertaste.

Moraiolo (20%)

A rustic plant with no great need of norturing nor soil requirements. It has a reputation for having a very high number of polyphenols inside its olives. The oil has a green-yellow colour, with hints of grass, artichoke and almond. The palate is markedly bitter and spicy with hints of raw vegetables.

Pendolino (11%)

Originally from Tuscany, this cultivar is highly valued for its ability to fertilize other varieties. It deserves more attention given the very high content of tocopherols.

Olio Nece is a medium fruity oil that goes well with structured dishes, grilled and au gratin fish and shellfish, fish soups, legume salads and richer cereals soups, legumes and vegetables, white and red meat.

THE PERFECT WINE

On the palate it has markedly bitter and spicy peaks that require to be balanced by a bold wine with a good alcoholic structure and acidity, such as the wines of the nearby Montalcino.
